Conor McGregor Is Overjoyed Right Now
Sara Diggins/American-Statesman / USA TODAY NETWORK

Conor McGregor never misses an opportunity to get back at his enemies. Whether they mess up in life or lose a big fight, the Irishman can’t get enough of the good ol’ schadenfreude. But he’s having an old-fashioned laugh attack at the expense of Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The Russian UFC legend is in trouble with the Russian government over unpaid taxes, with underpayments of around 300 million rubles. That translates to roughly $3.3 million in the U.S. Dollar, leaving Nurmagomedov in some deep trouble.

However, “Notorious” doesn’t care about it at all, stating that he was “delighted and ecstatic.” He also called out the UFC lightweight fighter for “typical rat behavior,” with him allegedly fleeing the fight scene.

The Petty Of Conor McGregor Shows Why He’s Entertaining

Conor McGregor is no stranger to creating legendary feuds in the UFC. He’s also had incredible matches with Nate Diaz, where the Bay Area native wants one more match with his old rival. The guarantee of a trilogy fight will excite MMA fans and bring in a solid gate.

With McGregor negotiating a new contract with the Las Vegas-based promotion, fans could see more pettiness and schadenfreude from the Irishman. The deal could be a record-breaker for the promotion, with “Notorious’s” popularity already impacting the business.

But what about the other side of the coin? Where does Nurmagomedov stand amidst his financial troubles? There could be a possibility of a UFC return in the cards. However, some factors may prevent him from doing so.

Could Fans See A Rematch?

As far as another chapter in the McGregor-Khabib rivalry goes, that remains to be seen whether that happens again. It’s obvious both sides dislike each other, especially after the van attack at UFC 223. Imagine what would happen if both fighters got into the octagon for another bout. Gate records would be shattered and PPV buys would go through the roof.

However, this is contingent on if Khabib Nurmagomedov wants to return to the ring. With his recent troubles coming to light, it could mean the Russian MMA legend returns to the ring. But other facets could tie him up, including coaching Islam Mahkachev. Plus, he must get his issue with his Russian taxes resolved. Otherwise, the “Eagle” might never return to the UFC again.

As far as the future is concerned, Conor McGregor does have his own return match at UFC 303 against Michael Chandler. The record-breaking event will light up Las Vegas on June 29, with fans pouring in to see the charismatic fighter come back. It’s also a good opportunity for a tune-up match for a potential rematch with his old buddy, Khabib.
