Watch: Francisco Lindor gets the Trea Turner treatment from Mets fans

New York Mets star Francisco Lindor is off to a pretty miserable start to the 2024 season.

He entered Friday's game against the Kansas City Royals hitting just .098 with a .380 OPS through his first 12 games. Those are pretty bad numbers and comparable to what National League pitchers used to do before the designated hitter was added to the league a few years ago.

Rather than boo him in his first plate appearance, Mets fans attempted to take a page out of the Philadelphia Phillies playbook and give him a nice round of applause and a standing ovation. Granted, it was a pretty small gathering at Citi Field, but the point remains the same. He got a louder than normal ovation.

When Phillies star Trea Turner was struggling a year ago in his debut season with the team, Phillies fans made a point to give him a standing ovation. It ended up being the turning point of his season and he finished hitting exactly as the team hoped he would.

Maybe this will have a similar impact for Lindor.

Even if it does not, Lindor is one of the best players in baseball and has finished in the top 10 of the National League MVP voting two years in a row. He has enough of a track record to make one believe he should get things back on track.

This start is only a 12-game sample and could quickly be balanced out.
