BYU is Pursuing Two More Transfer Quarterbacks

Boise State transfer Taylen Green is fresh off a Mountain West championship. Green, who has two years of eligibility remaining, will visit Arkansas, LSU, Cal, BYU, and Oregon State before December 16th according to BJ Rains of Bronco News Nation.

Green started for the Broncos as a redshirt freshman in 2022. He threw for 2,042 yards and 14 touchdowns to just 6 interceptions. He also had 588 rushing yards for 10 touchdowns. As a sophomore, Green's production dropped off slightly. In 2023, he threw for 1,792 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also ran for 436 yards and nine touchdowns. Turnovers were an issue at times for Green, he threw nine interceptions and he had four fumbles.

Green has a very high ceiling, but he still has a ways to go before he reaches his ceiling. If he were to pick BYU, the Cougars would need to develop him as a passer and help him clean up the turnover issues.

Sam Leavitt - Michigan State

Sam Leavitt told 247Sports that he has received offers from Oregon State, BYU, Utah, Arizona State, and Washington State. Leavitt has various connections to BYU. His Dad played linebacker at BYU from 1980-1984 and his older brother, Dallin, played at BYU before transferring to Utah State.

Leavitt was a four-star recruit that signed with Michigan State as part of the 2023 recruiting class. He was the backup during his true freshman season with the Spartans. Leavitt appeared in four games, preserving his redshirt and leaving him with four years of eligibility remaining.

Of the five schools that have offered Leavitt, BYU is the only school that can offer him an opportunity to start right away at a P4 school. Utah returns Cam Rising. Arizona State returns Jaden Rashada. Oregon State and Washington State have starting jobs available, but they will be relegated to the Group of Five ranks in 2024. Leavitt is an Oregon native, so Wazzu and Oregon State give him the opportunity to return to the Pacific Northwest.

Leavitt is mobile and he has great arm talent. He has the potential to be the quarterback of the future in Provo. He is, however, inexperienced. Starting right away could come with growing pains. But if the rise of the BYU basketball program has taught us anything, it's that sometimes those growing pains pay major dividends down the road.
